We use Owens Corning’s Total Protection Roofing System on most of the roofs we shingle. What does that mean in a practical way? This is more than just a layer of shingles! It is an integrated system designed to perform three critical functions:
SEAL: helps create a water-proof barrier.
Underlayment products help block water from the roof deck to prevent rot, mold, and water damage. The ice and water barriers are also designed to protect the roof in places where water tends to collect, such as valleys, vents, chimneys, and skylights.
DEFEND: helps protect against nature’s elements.
The shingle system is three-fold: starter shingles, which have a continuous sealant bead & protect against blow-offs and water in vulnerable areas, regular shingles, which are the first layer of defense against the forces of nature & help define the character of your home, and hip & ridge shingles, which provide a finished look to the roof’s peak while helping to defend the ridge vent.
BREATHE: helps balance attic ventilation.
The intake vents are located at the eaves of the roof and allow fresh air into the attic. The exhaust vents are located near the ridgeline of the roof and allow are to leave the attic. Both of these products facilitate air flow, which reduces the heat and moisture buildup that can lead to mold and roof damage.
